Ticket to a Spanking
By Jude Mason

Opening scene

“Oh, there he is,” Julia said to her best friend, Chris, when she spotted her husband’s SUV coming toward the house. “He's late, so he's really in trouble tonight.”

Well-rounded, blonde Chris, who’d been curled up on the couch with her naked legs tucked under her, sat up straight and peered through the living room window. Her head turned and followed the SUV as she tried to get a better look at Ken pulling into the driveway. He rolled to a stop in front of the garage, and a moment later, stepped into the late afternoon sun.

Julia stood in the window and watched him, her thoughts racing. Tall, well over six-feet, and with a swimmer’s build, she thought Ken’s body looked amazing, in or out of his clothes. He bent and retrieved his briefcase from the back seat of the SUV, giving both women a nice view of the tight slacks pulled over his muscular ass. Straightening, he hurried toward the house.

Julia's heart gave a familiar lurch and sped up when he walked past the picture window. Seated across from Chris in her easy chair, Julia smiled. She couldn’t wait to see what was about to happen.

“Do you want me to take off now?” Chris sat forward on the couch and put her coffee cup on the glass-topped table.

“No,” Julia held her hand up and smiled. “You just sit tight; after all, you're the one who found the ticket. Don't you want to see what his punishment is going to be?”

Blushing, the blonde woman replied, “Yes, of course I do.” She settled back, but fidgeted, obviously uncertain, or excited, or both. “You've told me about your arrangement—how you punish Ken, and I've always been curious, but I never thought I’d get to see.”

“Like I said, you're the one who found that speeding ticket. I think it's only right you get to at least see that he gets what he deserves.” Julia scowled. “I can’t believe he didn’t say anything to me—the dumbass.”

“If Ken hadn't loaned us his SUV, I would have never found it.” Chris leaned back against the cushions and tucked her legs under her again. She lifted her coffee cup from the table and took a sip just as Ken walked into the room.

“Hi, Chris. Julia, sorry I'm late.” He dropped his briefcase onto the nearest chair. “Horrible traffic today.” Heading for the kitchen, he didn't seem to notice the scowl on Julia's face, or the smile on Chris'. He shrugged out of his jacket and draped it over the back of a dining room chair on his way through, apparently oblivious to the trouble brewing.

He reached out to push the swinging door leading to the kitchen when Julia said, “Ken, bring me one of the dining room chairs please.” Her voice, softer than velvet, remained as calm as if she’d asked for the time.

Ken froze mid-step. For a moment, that's where he stayed. But then he shuddered and turned to face the women.

“Now?” he croaked, and by the look on his face, he seemed confused. His eyes darted from her to Chris and back again.

“Of course now,” she replied in her much-practiced sweet voice. “And don't forget the wooden spoon.”

Ken blinked and his jaw dropped, but he didn't move for a moment. When he did, he hurried into the kitchen as if someone had lit a fire under him.

The women looked at each other and burst out laughing. When she caught her breath, Chris asked, “Do you think he knows what's going on? Why he's in trouble all of a sudden?”

Still chuckling, Julia shrugged and shook her head. “I don't know, but I bet his mind is going a mile a minute trying to figure it out.”

The kitchen door swung open and Ken walked through with a long wooden spoon in his hand. He grabbed one of the dining room chairs as he came toward them, a glazed look in his eyes.

Julia smiled at his look of confusion.

Without saying a word, he placed the chair in the center of the room facing Julia, stepped around it and handed her the spoon. After taking a step back, he looked at the floor in front of her. He clasped his hands behind his neck and spread his feet a good foot apart. For leaving his shoes on, she'd add an additional stroke or two, if not more.

“Ken,” she began, still smiling. “Do you know why you're here?”

Top 10 Reasons Why Christmas Trees Are Better Than Men

Happy Holidays from Jenna Byrnes!

Last week Rhian was wondering how it got to be December. Well here it is, the 12th, and I'm still wondering. I do finally have a 'plan' for Christmas. I've bought a total of two gifts and feel damned good about that! I actually don't have many to buy this year, my family is taking a trip and we're planning to shop for our own presents while we're there. So I'm not really in the pathetic shape I sound like. *grin* However, if you're expecting a card from me, don't hold your breath.

Top 10 Reasons Why Christmas Trees Are Better Than Men

10. It gets turned on only when you want it turned on.
9. You don't have to put up with a Christmas tree all year.
8. You can throw a Christmas tree out when it wears out.
7. A Christmas tree doesn't get mad if you break one of its balls.
6. A Christmas tree has cute balls.
5. A Christmas tree is always happy with its size.
4. A Christmas tree always looks good - even when it's lit.
3. A Christmas tree stays up for 12 days and nights.
2. Even small ones give satisfaction.
1. A Christmas tree is always erect.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! ~ Jenna

What do you mean it's December?

Okay, who stole October and November? Anyone seen them? Cause I certainly haven't!

My life at the moment is just one big blur. *sigh* We're moving. Again. Three years ago my Hubby's company moved us from Sydney to Singapore, well now they're sending us back. Anyone who's moved house will know how hard it can be but I have to say shifting countries is a whole different ballgame!

Man, there are soooo many things you just don't think about. Bank accounts, doctors records, school reports, passports, residency paperwork, quarantine for the animals, the time it takes to ship furniture from one country to another...and the list goes on. And I don't want to even talk about the time-suck factor of the whole event. Or the stress. *pulls hair*

On top of all that we're making this wonderful (hear the sarcasm?) move right before Christmas. The week before to be precise. Whose flippin' idea was that? We have to pack enough in our suitcases to get us through two months without ALL our stuff plus Christmas presents that have been bought. Not to mention all the IMPORTANT paperwork in my office. Good thing the company is sending us business class or there'd be lots of yelling from me.

We've got less than two weeks and all I keep thinking is are we there yet? I know we shouldn't wish our life away but I'd really, really like it to be February now. That's when we get to move back into our house. Before that we'll be living out of those suitcases at my in-laws.

It's a good thing I'll have all that yummy Christmas food as a distraction. Not to mention the many get together's I'll be attending over the Christmas New Year period. I know it's all going to go quickly, just look at October and November but.....ARE WE THERE YET??

Post Turkey Day Blues

Yesterday I baked and set the table with dishes reserved only for holidays and special occasions. We sat at the table, my husband, youngest son, youngest daughter and her husband, and per tradition, each one told in turn what they were thankful for. Then, in less than half an hour, with the food left in ruins, plates empty, and the wine gone, everyone was back in their places watching TV, playing video games, or sitting outside to smoke while I went about finding enough room in the fridge for leftovers.

Today, I have the post turkey day blues.

I am the mother of twelve, Nana of twenty-five. When I was younger and the Nana of only a handful of grandchildren Thanksgiving meant all of the kids were coming home and there would be a couple of days of insanity, food and drink. And I loved every second of the chaos. Thanksgiving then meant no less than thirty people shouting to be heard over the noise, fighting over who was next in the bathroom, and shrieks of laughter as they ribbed, teased and told jokes about one another.

In the kitchen baking a different goodie for each one, I had grandchildren clamoring around to help me cook. I loved this part of the day when I could set grandchildren around the table with a big bowl in the middle, and as I measured ingredients I handed them off to the grandkids and let them add them to the bowl. Each one had a wooden spoon and all of them stirred, which eventually led to a battle of spoons. Usually we baked Toll House chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies and I didn’t care when half the batter wound up being eaten while they waited on the first batch of cookies to come out of the oven. And so what if they needed baths when we finished in order to get the dough out of their hair and off their hands and faces, Nana’s babies made cookies!

In those days there were no leftovers. By the time everyone had been home for a couple of days most of the food had been consumed, but whatever was left went home with my kids. Then the real clean up began! I remember after the last one had left walking back into the house, sitting down and listening to the silence, which seemed louder than the kids had been. The house in complete disarray, every dish either in the sink or in the dish rack, and every piece of furniture out of place.

I smiled as I thought of each one on my way to the bedroom where I climbed into bed to watch TV. I would get up in the morning and begin the clean up because Christmas was only a month away and I would get to do this all over again.

Over the years all of the kids have moved out, gone to college, married or just moved on with their lives. They live all over the place, Washington, California, Texas, Missouri and a couple are in Oklahoma so my Thanksgivings are much more subdued, although the phone rings constantly as they call to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving and each of them always say, “Mom, do you remember when we were all at home that one time and…”

So today is the day after Thanksgiving and Nana has the post turkey day blues.

Thankfully Yours . . .

Come the last week of November each year, I try and take off time from the EDJ (evil day job). First on my list of to-do's for the week is spring cleaning. Yup. You heard correctly. Spring cleaning in the fall. Just before the major holidays is the perfect time to deep clean every nook and cranny.

Call it a ritual, an obsession. Whichever, I find it necessary in order to get into "service mode", something I rarely do. With Thanksgiving comes my yearly transformation from selfish pig to humble servant. Rarely also, will one catch me in my glorious grump during this time. How so?

Simple. I know my limits.

Unlike the beautiful Cherub on the right over here, I'm not the "giving" type.

To even imagine picking up behind others, slaving away before a hot stove, or laundering nasty socks, years ago would've gotten me all out of sorts (actually, that is my usual sort...but whatever). I'm sure former neighbors have wondered just what the hell was going on up the hill, with all the shouting. For their inquiring minds--that would have been the old me trying to domesticate.

But not so anymore. I am capable of caring for others, as long as it's sporadically and sparingly--and NEVER asked of me. No. I can't do that one. I can, however, decide on my own terms when and just how I will give. The house will be spotless. There'll be pies, a funky jello dessert or two, salads, veggies, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, rolls, cranberry sauce, and I'll even manage to pull off a not-so half-baked bird.

Over time, I've come to realize that I'm okay with giving this much one week out of each year. Like I said, I know my limits, and the guys seem to have learned and accepted them also.

Every day, sans the last week of November, I lift not a finger. Sugar Daddy takes the boys to and from school, packs their lunches, helps them with their homework, and they all work together to keep the house "liveable". Laundry, vacuuming, cooking, dishes, yardwork, shopping . . . Heck, Sugar Daddy even chops wood and can tune a carburator in know time flat. But come Thanksgiving each year, it's my time to give to them for a change.

<----- On Thanksgiving, Sugar Daddy loses the apron!

Though the boys will come home from school one day next week, pause just inside the door, and inhale deeply, exclaiming, "Wow. It smells great in here!" And though ten minutes after the Thanksgiving feast is served, it will be devoured, bragged upon, accompanied by a few belches, and inevitably forgotten in the turkey sandwiches of the morrow, I will smile, satisfied with a job well done. More satisfied that the job is then, done.

And that's all right with me. Because, I get the next 364 days off. Free from distractions, so I can write. Free from worries and mundane tasks. And thankfully, Sugar Daddy and the boys are okay with it. They'd better be. Curious, who's cooking for you this Thanksgiving?

Thankfully Yours,
~Bryl

The 'Kilt Question' - Finally Answered

By Jenna Byrnes

What exactly do men wear under those kilts? Many of us have wondered this over the years. I found a few pictures to satisfy our curiosity.

This one needs no caption. The expressions on those faces? Priceless!

Oops! Marilyn Monroe, eat your heart out.

Oops, part two.

Anyone for a tall, cold one?

Wonder how she felt when she saw this? LMAO!

These pictures aren't new, but they're certainly good for a smile. I'd love to be able to tell you I have some Scottish book at Noble Romance to ties these photos in to, but I don't. I write contemporary stories set in the good old U.S. of A. (Okay, sometimes Canada...) But my stories are also good for a smile, so stop by Noble and check them out.

Have a lovely weekend and remember to take time to smile whenever possible!

H.C.Brown

Hi, H.C. Brown here, or Heather to my friends.

I live in paradise, yeah that’s true. How else would you describe living close to approximately a twenty-mile stretch of white sandy beaches? The climate is tropical, which means the weather is great every day…unless it’s raining. I love the beach but it took me twenty years of hard work to get here. I used to live in a drought area in a little town in the west. It’s surprising how our lives reflect how we write. Here, I’m content and my writing flows…before every paragraph was an effort.

In my personal life, I’m an International Cat Judge. This means I travel a great deal and meet heaps of very interesting people…and cats. I bred Siamese and Oriental Shorthair for thirty years and won Cat of the Year eight years in a row. I don’t own a cat now, for me with animals it’s all or nothing. I knew with writing I wouldn’t have the time to give 100% care to my animals and judge as well. Yes, I miss them….terribly…but they are all doing really well and I get to visit.

You would be surprised how many stories spring into my imagination when I’m stuck in an airport or on a long trip. Carrying a notebook for me is a must do. If I see anyone ‘interesting’ I jot down everything about them from the way they walk to how they speak. I think travelling is also a great opportunity to discover unusual names of people and places.

The other day I was watching a show on T.V. about people solving problems when dreaming. It was interesting because most of my stories evolve from an idea that triggers a dream. Although *sigh* the heroes in my stories have remained elusive. This of course becomes a problem for me when I’m writing mystery stories. I usually write about a female P.I. who usually solves a murder, which personally, I don’t enjoy dreaming about. There are many authors writing about Vampires at present. I’m finding that to write a different Vamp story I had to make quite a few decisions.

Firstly, do they go out in the sun? Well that problem limits the chance of finding a love interest and keeping them in the dark. Do they suck human blood or the local cow? If they suck human blood, will the love interest mind/ offer herself/ run like hell? Do they rip people to shreds or are they just nice guys who suck blood? Then, on the other hand will they be cold as ice, sleep in coffins or be rich and famous and have their own heated tomb? The cold skin bothers me slightly… I like my men hot. :-)

Writing Paranormal and Fantasy to me is bliss, it offers me total freedom of thought that writing a Historical Romance does not. Although, I love the old language and the period way of speaking comes into my head when writing…it’s a shame the research is so difficult for no matter how much you do, someone finds an error. I write every day, because I want to, need to. I have four manuscripts in progress and ten completed awaiting edits. I started High School in London U.K. when I was eleven years old, we were divided up into four house groups, Science, Mathematics, Literature and Commerce each had a name of a famous person. They put me in Jane Austen House…well for once in my life someone got it right.

Warm Regards,

Heather

Jaye Valentine's Halloweensary!

One year ago today, my partner Reno MacLeod and I published our first collaborative story, "StarCrossed 1: Demon Tails." While this was not the first thing we wrote together, it was our first joint story published and therefore holds a special place in our hearts. The fact the story is urban fantasy and takes place around Halloween, coupled with the fact it was originally published on Halloween makes the story and the occasion that much more special.

Reno and I have written and published a lot of stories since then, with much more to come. It's been my privilege to work with such a gifted artist. Reno is not only an incredible writer, but a talented graphic artist as well. While I may be the one that puts the shine and polish on manuscripts when I re-write, revise, and edit, our stories wouldn't have the heart and soul they posses without Reno's amazing characterizations and "big picture" way of thinking. I'm just the detail man, and it's a humbling experience to work with him.

At this time, Reno and I have several more stories that have been contracted for publication by Noble Romance Publishing. "A Perfect Game" is a short novel (around 55,000 words) with multiple layers of themes: age difference, authority figure dynamics, BDSM elements, and baseball. Twenty-year-old Christopher Pennington—generally known throughout the story by his nickname "Kit"—dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. He has the talent and the drive needed for the sport, but finds his lack of interest in education barring his way. Under threat from his wealthy father, an important alumnus and contributor at Kit's private Christian college, he has been barely muddling through. It isn't until the very handsome Liam Dalton replaces one of Kit’s regular professors at the exclusive school that higher learning takes on any real meaning. Look for "A Perfect Game" at Noble Romance in late January 2010.

We've also contracted on proposal a longer novel (around 100,000 words) entitled "Little Japan," which I'm proud to announce will be part of Noble Romance's brand new "Foreign Affairs" line of short stories, novellas, and novels featuring non-U.S. characters and locales. As we're still in the first draft phase of this story we're keeping it close to the vest at this point, but if all goes according to plan you'll see it featured at Noble Romance in either February or March 2010.

Our third offering currently under contract with Noble is a short story I wrote solo entitled "Firecracker." Jeff, a Baltimore cop, spends a fun weekend with his walk-on-the-wild-side, live-in life-partner, Isaac. Isaac has a kink for risky sex with strangers, which Jeff finds incredibly hot and is more than willing to facilitate. Jeff trusts Isaac to be emotionally faithful despite the physical dalliances, and Isaac trusts Jeff to watch his back and keep him safe from harm. Not a lifestyle everyone could manage, but it works for them. A short story (12,000 words) that's occasionally humorous and frequently hotter than the surface of the sun, "Firecracker" is story about the honesty of love and trust and risk. Depending on timing issues regarding the completion of "Little Japan," "Firecracker" will be released by Noble Romance in either February or March 2010.

To celebrate our first year anniversary of our first published collaboration, Reno MacLeod and I will be celebrating Happy Halloweensary on Twitter, starting around 7:00 p.m. EDT on October 31, 2009.

Prizes, silliness, and drunken tweeting will abound, including a round of "Jaye's Twitter-sized Movie Blurbs, Or Why Reno Writes Our Blurbs And Not Me." Please visit my Very Neglected Blog for details.

Damn Gorgeous by Jaye Valentine

Introducing Erika Gilbert

Hello, I'm Erika Galpin, paranormal romance author, writing under the pen name Erika Gilbert, with a psychology degree, accidental poet and most importantly mother to a very intelligent, beautiful boy who is a joy to both parents. The greatest influence on my writing was my father, who took me to see the original Star Wars movies—when I was probably far too young, and raised me on Startrek and had me watching Doctor Who from when I was four. So a paranormal flavor to my writing was probably inevitable. Dad unfortunately died before realizing his dream of becoming a writer. I hope he’s proud of me.

I started writing seriously after the birth of my son over five years' ago. Well, after the why-won't-he-stop-crying-and-just-sleep? stage—which lasted eight months. Anyway during those insane days, where I was so tired that my vision blurred I started writing seriously. Because I was so tired what I wrote didn’t always make sense but I’d been bitten by the writing bug, and it’s been with me ever since. If I’m honest actually, the ideas first started coming—in a vague sort of way—when I was pregnant. It could have been the hormones, but I like to think it was the beautiful soul living inside me, but being pregnant seemed to boost my creativity. So, in more ways than one, I have my son to thank for making me put pen to paper.

A strange thing happened recently. My mum found a folder marked writing amongst some of dad’s things. Writing in his virtually illegible scrawl, the folder was filled with story ideas, all of them science fiction. The interesting thing was that the writing was done while he was a travelling salesman. I can imagine him on the long nights away from us comforting himself by, and filling his lonely hours, writing. The spooky thing was that a couple of decades later, while my son was the same age I was doing exactly the same thing! I don’t know why but it’s comforting to think that at exactly the same stage in my life I was following in his footsteps, and even though he’s no longer with us I can hold that same folder he wrote in all those years ago. I was born in Kent, England but I don't remember much because by the age of two I was on my way to Australia. I stayed there just long enough to cuddle some koalas, meet a snake in the bathtub, and find a family of red backs under a log (I got in so much trouble for looking under that!). Then, when I was four I came to New Zealand. I bunny-hopped to a few cities (there's more than a drop of gypsy blood in my family) before coming to a stop in Nelson.

A couple of years’ ago I stumbled across the Nelson Poetry Society’s International Haiku competition. I’d always been good at Haiku when I was at school so I thought, why not? So I entered. Again, it was my son who influenced me. I ended up winning that competition, which had drawn over seven hundred entries from around the world. And the winning poem was about my son. Many years later, I started a story about a witch who walked into a bar and cast an alcohol nullifying spell on a glass of bourbon, so she could taste the alcohol but keep a clear head. And so Blood Talisman was born. At the time I was shopping around for publishers to submit to when I came across Noble Romance. Because the submissions called for kink I was torn. But something about Noble Romance drew me. I thought adding a bit of spice wouldn’t be too hard. I had no idea what a huge influence this change would have to my story. My skin-walkers would merely have been annoying creatures who entered people’s bodies uninvited. With the kinkiness they could do a whole lot more. I tell you, adding spice lifted the story to a whole new level, and I’m just so glad I stumbled across Noble Romance, because it changed my writing forever—in a good way!

If you like vampires, skin-walkers, witches and a touch of druid magic then check out my book here. I hope you enjoy it.

In Someone Else’s Skin

By Jenna Byrnes

When I began writing, I didn’t know squat about ‘point of view’. The hero thought one thing, in the next paragraph the heroine thought something else. I head-hopped like crazy, and actually felt it was important to let the reader know what everyone was thinking at all times. It was a shock to find out that wasn’t the ‘correct’ way to write. Some of my favorite romance authors head hopped, and if they could do it… Hmm. Never mind. I was a beginner, and it just wasn’t allowed. I had to choose a P.O.V., or at least one P.O.V. per chapter, and stick with it. Writing in the male P.O.V. has turned out to be great fun for me. There’s a certain freedom to write like a man might speak. I’m not saying all men cuss, and I know some women who swear like sailors on leave. But somehow, when a guy utters a vulgarity, it doesn’t seem like as big a deal as when a woman does. In my mind, while a woman might use the word ‘breasts’, a man might just as easily call them ‘t*ts’. Men are more into bodily function jokes than most women. (Not all of this is true about everybody- so please, no nasty emails. I’m generalizing.) Of course, all people are different, so sometimes I like to break out of the stereotypical roles and let my characters say or do something totally unexpected.

Bottom line, it depends on the character, and what type of a persona I’m trying to establish. At one time, I had an editor check me, when my male character said something was ‘lovely’. She questioned, and I agreed, that a guy might not call the view, or flowers, lovely. Again, this depends on the guy. Some of them might not notice the view at all, unless it was of a woman's rear end! I’m not a huge sports person but my husband is, so I use his knowledge and expertise when I want to throw sports tidbits into my stories. And I use the internet constantly for research of one kind or another. I enjoy the male P.O.V. so much that I took it one step further, writing m/m erotic romance. I’ve written lesbian stuff, and I still write m/f. But I’m having the most fun writing about guys, and their relationships with each other. Love is love. I'm having fun exploring all different aspects of it. Which is what it’s all about to me. Writing what I enjoy, and finding some readers to take along on the adventure. I hope you’ll check out my titles at Noble Romance Publishing and my website. And have a great day!

Rie McGaha interviewed by Lynn Crain

I was recently interviewed by Lynn Crain. Here is part of that interview, for the complete ramblings, go to Lynn Crain's XtraOrdinary Romance.

At what age did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

I don’t really know because I don’t remember there ever being a time I wasn’t writing. From the time I could make letters, I was writing stories!

What has been your biggest influence on becoming a writer?

There was just something inside me that demanded I write whether it was little girl stories, or morose teen poetry, or song lyrics, or bedtime stories for my kids, I had to write.

How did you feel when you got your first publishing contract?

Stunned! I couldn’t believe anyone would want to publish me, let alone actually buy and read something I wrote!

How many novellas/novels have you published to date? When did you have your first sale?

I have 5 works out right now. Three are novels and two novellas. Sheesh, I don’t remember when the first sale was.

Tell me about your latest release. Please include if it is part of a series or a stand alone book.

TWO FOR HIRE was released 9/28. It’s a novella where the lead characters are introduced by the male leads sister trying to marry her brother off. The two like each other, have hot sex and could probably fall madly in love, except there’s one little thing standing in the way…

ANCIENT BLOOD is being released 10/19 and it’s the sequel to my paranormal werewolf book BLOOD LINE that was released a year ago.

What was your inspiration for this book?

LOL Every time someone asks me that question I feel like I’m supposed to have a wonderful inspirational story behind the book. Unfortunately, TWO FOR HIRE has no such story, it’s really just a funny look at a situation and a really good excuse for hot sex!

ANCIENT BLOOD however, is a different story—so to speak! BLOOD LINE came from a dream my truck driver husband had about being attacked by werewolves while on the road…he’s a big sci-fi fan! So while I was writing that one, the character of Ganda became a story in herself and ANCIENT BLOOD picks up her story where BLOOD LINE left off. And there’s probably a third book in this line because Ganda’s uncle, Garan, is now demanding his story be told. After all, even a 2,000 year old werewolf deserves happily ever after!

Passport to Passion

I wasn't sure what to blog about for my first time so I thought I'd start at the beginning. A little bit of info on me and you'll see where the inspiration for my collection of short stories came from. I'm an Aussie living in Singapore. I followed my own personal hero of 21 years, dragging our 4 children behind me, when he was promoted to a regional roll. We live in a condo that has 5 pools, 3 tennis courts, a gym, hairdresser, mini-mart, spa (yes the pamper yourself kind and the one with bubbles), an alcohol serving poolside cafe and a beautiful view that stretches all the way to Indonesia. Right about now is when my friends tune out or turn green with envy, and I haven't even mentioned the maid! LOL

Singapore is a tropical climate, never drops below 22C/72F but has humidity off the scale. Coming from Oz we're used to the heat but 24/7 can get a bit much unless you're me. I LOVE the heat. (Probably why the heat level in my stories is always scorching.) We're also lucky to be just a short trip from some of the most exotic locations in the world and in the over 2 years we've been here we've taken advantage of that and visited many. Which leads into my little collection of short stories.

One Night In Bangkok was inspired by a trip I took with Hubby. He had to work and I got to tag along. From the minute I hit the airport I couldn't get the song out of my head, you know the one I mean, so I guess it was only a matter of time before Mr. Muse got involved. Parking myself somewhere that gives me the ability to people watch is a pastime I love and being in a foreign country makes it more enjoyable. Sitting back in the bar of a luxury hotel sipping on an ice cold cocktail just adds to the pleasure. Watching a rather rumpled, sweaty businesswoman stagger through the front door and flop into a chair I had one of those light bulb moments. There was no businessman coming to her rescue in real life but once Mr. Muse and I were done with her she had a hunky Thai/American savior.

Singapore Fling was similarly inspired by an afternoon of relaxing in the famous Long Bar in the Raffles hotel here in Singapore. The birthplace of the cocktail Singapore Sling proved to be a good source of inspiration for Mr. Muse. It wasn't anyone in particular that inspired Carly or Saxon but after an afternoon of watching the many changing faces it's not surprising that they found their way into my head.

I love playing the 'who are they?' game. It makes a boring wait go quicker, in the check-out line in the supermarket is a great place to try. Is the tired woman with the 3 kids in tow a single mother or has she just found out her husband is sleeping with her best friend? Is the immaculately dress woman in the next line a mistress to multimillionaire? Is the baby-face boy behind you a serial killer stalking the city? The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination. I just happen to have an imagination that knows no bounds. I guess you could say the world is my oyster.
